Love Flying Geese Book {& A Giveaway}

I received an unexpected email a few weeks ago and it was a wonderful surprise. The editors of Love Patchwork & Quilting Magazine have published a book filled with their favourite flying geese quilts. The book is called Love Flying Geese and it is available now from C&T Publishing. Inside you’ll find two of my designs along with 25 other quilts!

Love Flying Geese includes 27 quilt projects from amazing quilters you already know and love including; Karen Lewis, Amanda Castor, Minki Kim, Jemima Flendt and Moira de Carvalho. The quilts are as varied as they are beautiful and in true Love Patchwork style the instructions are easy to follow and include plenty of diagrams.

Pastel Twist Quilt

The first of my flying geese quilts included is this Pastel Twist quilt. Made with just four print fabrics Pastel Twist is a fun baby/lap size quilt that comes together surprisingly quickly.

Inspiration truly is everywhere and this quilt is a perfect example of that. The Pastel Twist quilt was based on a scarf I saw while on holidays. The top row of the quilt is pretty similar to the pattern I saw on the scarf but, it didn’t look so great on a quilt by itself. By playing around with the orientation of the block and adding a couple of additional colours Pastel Twist was born. Now that it’s done I think I like it even more than the scarf it was based on!

If you would like to see more of this quilt you can check out this earlier post for heaps more pictures and information. Included in the post is a fun pillow you can make with the offcuts of any flying geese units. (That might just come in handy if you make a quilt from this book!)

Summer Scoop Quilt

The second one of my quilts included in this great book is the Summer Scoop pattern. Doesn’t it remind you of yummy gelato or sorbet with this pretty fabrics by Kate Spain.

Summer Scoop is based on a traditional block design. To modernise the look I upsized the blocks and offset each row to give the blocks some movement.

Summer Scoop is one of my favourite designs and it is available as a stand alone pattern in my shop as well as being included in the Love Flying Geese book.

And just in case a quilt is feeling a bit much… The Love Flying Geese book also includes the pattern to make this one block cushion cover. You can read more about Summer Scoop and see more pictures in this post.

  1. I love the economy block. I never made anything with flying geese, must change that.

  2. What a great looking book! My favorite quilt block is the Dresden. I don’t mind making flying geese at all because I have always loved a challenge and completing that block with points perfectly matched is a good one.

  3. I like the triangle in a square block because it gives the impression of curves when combined with HSTs.

  4. It is really difficult for me to pick a ‘favorite’ quilt block — there are so many fascinating ones! Lately I have been gravitating toward maverick stars and broken dishes designs, though…

  5. My favorite is log cabin, but I am so impressed with all the options for flying geese! This looks like a wonderful book.

  6. I love how you changed things up with your flying geese! My favorite block is the Pineapple. I love to paper piece them.

  7. I love any variation of a star block! One of my first quilts was a red, white, and blue sawtooth star for the Fourth of July. My points wouldn’t match up and I had a hard time with it, but all I learn from it has made it one of my favorites!

  8. Some of my favorite blocks are the Churn Dash and sawtooth Star. You can’t go wrong with flying geese & half square triangle blocks, so versatile! Your Summer Scoop pattern is on my To Do list! ?

  9. My favorite block is always the one I’m working at so the current favorite is Granny Squares. I’ve never tried to make flying geese but would love to learn. Thanks for the chance!

  10. Hope I’m not too late for this great giveaway!
My current fave is the friendship star 🙂
