Log Cabin Quilt Love

Log Cabin quilts are certainly doing the rounds at the moment. There’s been quilt a few sew-alongs happening on Instagram which is always fun and, making one has been on my quilting bucket list for way too long. Log Cabin quilts are just the type of quilt I love. They are steeped in tradition, perfect for scraps and so so pretty! I can’t believe I hadn’t made one before now!

I hadn’t put away this pile of coral, peachy, pink fabric scraps after making over an Ikea cushion. I thought they’d look great in a quilt to match my daughters bedroom. Just a few days later I saw that Camille from Thimbleblossom’s was hosting a sew along with her Sweet Escape pattern on Instagram. It was fate I tell you. Fate!

Log cabin quilts are perfect for chain piecing. It makes sewing quilt blocks super fast and, it allows for some good binge TV watching or podcast listening!

My tip for chain piecing is to have a finished block hanging up right where you are sewing. I find it just provides an easy reference to help ensure your block is being sewn correctly.

Before you know it you’ll have a nice pile of blocks all ready for sewing in to a quilt top.

Not the best photo ever taken it does show the fun star shapes the Sweet Escape pattern lays the blocks out in.

I had this one quilted by the wonderful Meredith in a traditional baptist fan pattern. Meredith does beautiful work and she agreed that this quilting design was just perfect for a log cabin quilt. I haven’t washed it yet but I know its going to develop the perfect crinkly goodness when I do. All the better for snuggling under if you ask me!

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Happy quilting,

  1. This is quilt is absolutely gorgeous — and the backing, just perfect. I also love the quilting on it — it doesn’t take away from the design — only adds wonderful movement to it all. A real treasure!

  2. This is a beautiful log cabin quilt! I agree with the other commenter, the baptist fan quilting adds to the quilt.

  3. What a gorgeous quilt! The photo laid out really shows off the pattern with the lights and darks. I haven’t made a log cabin quilt for quite some time and this gives me the bug for sure. I’m so glad I just ran across your site!

  5. Gorgeous! I’ve been gathering some pink and cream fabric to do a log cabin. I will look for this pattern

  6. I am currently making a log cabin quilt for a soon-to-be mother. She is waiting to learn the gender of the baby and I think the backing of your quilt would be perfect. Do you by chance know the designer or name of the pattern of the boy/girl chain fabric?
