Welcome to day 1 of the Sweet Stars Sewalong! I’m so excited to be hosting this sewalong and even more excited to see the beautiful quilts everyone creates.
Starting this Thursday and continuing every Monday and Thursday in September a whole bunch of fabulously talented quilters will be sharing tips and tricks to make sewing the Sweet Stars quilt, and quilting in general, a breeze!
There’s still a few days to get ready so no need to worry if you’re only just now hearing about the sewalong. The tips and tricks don’t start until Thursday. Today, I’ll be outlining you know how everything will work and, most importantly, how to make sure you are in the running for a fun prize at the completion of the sewalong.
- Sweet Stars Pattern: To join in you’ll need a copy of the Sweet Stars pattern. If you don’t already have a copy you can grab one from my online store by clicking here. I’ve also added the Sweet Stars Mini to my online store. PDF patterns are available now and paper patterns will be available soon.
- Quilt Kits & Backing Sets: The Fat Quarter Shop has Sweet Stars Quilt Kits and Backing Sets available now. They also have yardage available for every one of the beautiful prints in Sedef’s Sweet Orchard collection (which is what I used to make the Sweet Stars quilt).
- Instagram Hashtags: Sewing with other people online is heaps of fun and a great way to make new friends. If you’re on Instagram make sure to add the hashtags #sweetstarsal and #sweetstarsquilt to your photo so that everyone can see your progress and, your finished quilt.
- Timezone: I love that there are bloggers from all over the world joining in but the difference in timezones can get a little tricky so to make things easy we will all be making sure the posts are live according to the US date/time.
- Staying Up To Date: I’ll be posting both here and on Instagram throughout the sewalong to keep everyone up to date. If you’d like to receive updates by email you can sign up to receive my newsletter by clicking here.
- Prizes: The lovely folks at Riley Blake have kindly provided a Fat Quarter Bundle and a Fat Eighth Bundle of Sweet Orchard by Sedef Imer as prizes for two lucky people who join in with the sewalong. To be in the running for one of the bundles pictured you’ll need to post a picture of your completed blocks by the end of the sewalong on Instagram using the hashtags above. If you don’t have an Instagram account you can send a photo direct to me by email at shequiltsalot@gmail.com or, much better idea because Instagram is seriously great, you can sign up for an account by clicking here. (oh and ps there may just be some other prizes and giveaways along the way, but that’s a secret for now!)
A quick note for quilt shops in Australia. Millhouse Collections has wholesale kits available if you’d like to stock them in your store. Contact Millhouse direct for more information.
You’re welcome to join in with the sewalong at any time and you can sew at your own pace. There is definitely no requirement to start this week but to be in the running for the prizes you’ll need to make sure that you have your blocks completed by September 29.
I’m guessing a few of you probably won’t to know about the bloggers and the topics they’ll be covering right? You’ll find that listed just down the page a little bit. As each post goes live I will update the link to take you directly to the relevant post but, in the meantime, you should definitely take a look at the fun and exciting things everyone has been working on lately. I’m sure you’ll find inspiration and eye candy galore!
And finally, if you have any other questions at all please let me know. I’m always happy to help.
How do you search on this website. I’m trying to find “sewing studio” mentioned on your Instagram to see what you pieces were used from IKEA to build your cutting/craft table?
Hi Diane
Just underneath my picture there is a search field. You can type in there or you can follow the link here https://shequiltsalot.com/hello-2016/ to go straight to the post 🙂
I’m new at this and wonder how do you accurately trim the 2 1⁄4 squares to 1 1⁄2.
Hi Beth, I use a product called the Bloc-Loc ruler. It’s a wonderful little tool and I’m sure you will find it really useful.
